PC Hockey Holds On for 7-5 Win Over Miami (Ohio)

The Providence College Friars men's hockey team defeated Miami of Ohio 7-5 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. With the win, Providence advances to the second round where they will face Denver on Sunday, March 29 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Puck drop is set for 5 p.m.
Providence and Miami went into the first intermission tied at two goals apiece until the Friars erupted for four goals in the second period.
Steven McParland got the scoring started 5:30 seconds into the period and was followed by Brian Pinho, Shane Luke and Noel Accari who scored with two minutes left to play in the frame. The Friars took a 6-2 lead into the third period.

The Friars sealed the game when Brandon Tanev notched an empty netter with a few seconds left to play in the third.
Friars goaltender Jon Gillies stopped 29 of 34 shots and picked up the win while Red Hawks goaltender Jay Williams stopped 23 of 28 shots and Ryan McKay stopped six of seven shots in his relief appearance.
The Friars advance to the second round where they will face Denver on Sunday, March 29 at 5 p.m. A win over Denver would send the Friars to the Frozen Four in Boston.
