Patriots Trade Brissett, Cut Roster to 53 Players

The New England Patriots traded third string quarterback Jacoby Brissett and cut their roster to 53 players on Saturday.
Brissett was traded to the Indianapolis Colts for wide receiver/punt returner Phillip Dorsett.
According to reports, the Patriots also acquired Detroit defensive back Johnson Bademosi for an undisclosed draft pick.

Dorsett was a 2015 first round pick out of the University of Miami.
Last season with the Colts, Dorsett hauled in 33 catches for 528 yards and two touchdowns.
He also returned two punts for the Colts after returning 25 punts in college.
The Patriots are in need of a punt returner with Julian Edelman and Cyrus Jones both out for the season.
Brissett With the Patriots
Brissett started two games for the Patriots last season, going 1-1 in that stretch.
During the 2017 preseason, Brissett started and played the entire fourth game against the Giants.
In the game, Brissett completed 27 of 35 passes for 340 yards and four passing touchdowns and another rushing touchdown. He had one interception early in the game.
Patriots Cuts
Players that the Patriots cut include wide receivers Devin Lucien, Tony Washington, Austin Carr and K.J. Maye, running back D.J. Foster, rookie running back LeShun Daniels, fullback Glenn Gronkowski, rookie tight end Sam Cotton, rookie offensive linemen Tony Garcia, Jason King, and Max Rich, offensive lineman Jamil Douglas, rookie defensive backs Jason Thompson, D.J. Killings, Kenny Moore and Damarius Travis, linebackers Jonathan Freeny, Shea McClellin and Trevor Bates, defensive tackle Vincent Valentine, and rookie defensive linemen Josh Augusta and Mikey Bart.
On Friday, the Patriots traded cornerback Justin Coleman to the Seattle Seahawks for a future draft pick.
Edelman, Jones and Derek Rivers will all be placed on injured reserve.
