“We are excited to bring the sport of polo to the beach at Watch Hill, and could think of no better partner than the Ocean House, whose location and reputation is second-to-none,” said Cavison Polo Group Co-Founder Steve Courville.

The first game between the two colleges dates back more than 100 years ago. Playing on sand will provide new challenges to both teams in an unchartered territory.

“The Harvard and Yale athletic rivalry that started with football in 1875 and now covers a wide range of team and individual sports is certainly the oldest and one of the fiercest of any college rivalry in the country,” said Harvard Polo coach Crocker Snow Jr., who first was introduced to the rivalry as an ice hockey player during his undergraduate years at Harvard. “The game at the Ocean House will be an added first - the first between Harvard and Yale polo played on a beach, with fresh challenges of sand and nearby surf for horse and rider.”

Brandon Van Loon, Yale Polo Team coach agreed, “We are looking forward to matching up against Harvard with a set of variables that have never been done before, neutral turf completely new footing, and the rare opportunity to put Yale horses against Harvard horses at the same time.”
