Winning Streak Snapped, URI Falls to St. Bonaventure 77-74

URI’s 16-game winning streak is snapped.
The Rams fell 77-74 to St. Bonaventure on Friday night, snapping the longest active winning streak in the country.
The loss also marks URI’s first A-10 loss since February 15, 2017, when they lost to Fordham.

St. Bonaventure improves to 19-6 overall and 9-4 in the A-10.
URI Can’t Hold On
With the game tied at 59 with 9:22 to play, Matthews converted a four-point play to spark URI to an 8-2 run to take a 67-61 lead with 7:44 to play after a layup by Cyril Langevine.
Rhode Island would hold a 71-65 lead with 4:31 to play following a layup from Fatts Russell before St. Bonaventure would take over.
The Bonnies would go on an 8-1 run to take a 73-72 lead with 54 seconds to play.
Rhode Island would take the lead back, 74-73, on two free throws from Langevine before a dunk by St. Bonaventure’s LaDarien Griffin would give the Bonnies the lead for good, 75-74.
URI’s Jeff Dowtin had a chance to tie the game with 18 seconds left, but missed the free throw.
St. Bonaventure’s Matt Mobley would knock down two free throws in the closing seconds to seal the win.
The Rams were led by Jared Terrell, who poured in 23 points on 7 of 17 shooting from the field.

URI returns to action Tuesday, February 20 when they visit La Salle.
Game time is set for 7 p.m.
