Former URI Basketball Player Arrested on Murder Charge

Former URI and Northeastern basketball player Alwayne Bigby is one of two suspects charged with 1st degree murder in the shooting of a mother of 4 in Scarborough, Ontario, Candada Saturday night, according to the Toronto Police and the Toronto Sun.

According to the report, 33-year-old Andrea White was the victim of a drive-by shooting at around 11 p.m. Saturday.  Michael Davani, 21, was arrested shortly thereafter, and Bigby turned himself in to authorities early Sunday morning.  Both suspects will appear in court on Monday.

When reached for comment, URI Associate AD Mike Laprey said the University did not have any comment regarding the reports.

Bigby, 23, played 3 seasons at Northeastern before transferring to URI for his senior season in 2012.  He appeared in 29 games for Rhody, averaging 1.3 points per game.
