ESPN is reporting that the Celtics have signed superstar free agent Gordon Hayward. He choose Boston over his present team the Utah Jazz  and the Miami Heat.

“Hayward has agreed to sign a max deal with the Celtics, according to sources, worth $127 million over four years,” writes ESPN.

One of the keys to the decision may be that Hayward played for now-Celtics Coach Brad Stevens who was Hayward’s college coach at Butler.

Hayward has improved his scoring average each of his six years in the NBA and last season averaged 21.9 per game. He only averaged 5.4 rebounds a game last season.

The Celtics hope that the signing of Hayward closes the talent gap with Cleveland. Hayward’s contract will force the Celtics to make some roster moves to clear some salary.
