Elmwood Little League Softball: New England Champs, Regional Runners-Up

The Elmwood Little League Sr. All-Star softball team won the New England pool and advanced all the way to the 2014 regional championship game, ultimately losing to the state champions from Pennsylvania.
The team from Elmwood won the Rhode Island State Championship and advanced to the regional tournament in Worcester, Massachusetts. The team competed against 9 other state champions from across the northeast.
After winning the New England pool and advancing to the semifinals, Elmwood trounced the state champions from New Jersey 10-2 to advance to the championship game.

"The All Star Girls Softball team is made up of residents from the Southside of Providence, an area that’s far too often seen in the news lately as being riddled with violence," a statement read. "We at the Rhode Island Young Professionals want to highlight some of the great things and people in Providence in spite of the recent surge of violence. As part of our mission it is important to demonstrate that if children can find an outlet through recreational activities, not only will they stay out of trouble, their strengths and successes will increase and thus make them unstoppable!"
