Leland King had 25 points in the game but it wasn't enough as the (1-3) Brown men's basketball team fell on the road to the (2-1)Indiana State Sycamores 78-66 in the opening round of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational on Saturday night. 

Brown trailed by four points, 65-61 late in the game before Indiana State went on a 7-1 run to close the game out, handing Brown their third straight loss. 

Leland King hit 10 of 20 shots from the field in route to his 25 points and also pulled down 12 rebounds to complete a double-double in the loss.

 Khristian Smith scored 23 points to lead the Sycamores to a win, hitting only six shots from the field but going a perfect nine for nine from the free throw line. 

The Brown Bears continue their Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational when they travel to Illinois to take on the Fighting Illini on Monday November 24. Tip off is at 8 p.m.

Battle on the boards

The Bears did a good job in the rebounding department in the game outrebounding Indiana State 39-33. 

Brown had 25 defensive rebounds and 14 offensive rebounds resulting in 13 second chance points in the game.

Shooting woes

The Brown Bears did not shoot well in this game from the floor or from the free throw line and it cost them. 

The Bears only shot 39 percent from the floor and 39 percent from three-point land. 

From the free throw line, Brown only shot 68 percent while Indiana State shot 78 percent and got the win.

Leland King

Sophomore Leland King had another good outing for the Bears, scoring 20 plus points for the second straight game for the Bears. 

King had 25 points in this game and also pulled down 12 rebounds for a double-double. All 12 of his rebounds were on the defensive end.

The only negative part about his game tonight was the five turnovers that he had.

Turnovers

In their second straight game without starting guard Tavon Blackmon, the Bears once again struggled to hold onto the ball. Brown committed 20 turnovers in this game, 17 of them from the starters. 

Seven turnovers were committed by the starting guards, Tyler Williams and Steven Spieth and 10 turnovers were committed by the forwards, Kuakumensah, Maia, and King. 

Indiana State scored 12 points off the Brown turnovers.

Points in the Paint

The Brown Bears lost the battle in the paint, giving up 34 points to Indiana State while only scoring 22. 

Brown's big men like Maia and Kuakumensah are going to have to step up on the defensive end while offensively, the Bears are going to have to do a better job of establishing a paint presence early on. 

Maia only had ten points in the game while Kuakumensah had eight points but did not shoot one free throw in the contest.
