2nd Race The State Set for August 7, 2016

The 2nd Race The State, a multi-sport endurance race that takes competitors through the state, is set to take place on Sunday, August 7, 2016.
Like the first edition, the 2nd edition is made up of 5 legs which include running, paddle boarding, kayaking and cycling. The race will start in Tiverton and competitors will travel 53 miles through the state and finish on the Connecticut/Rhode Island border in Westerly.

- Leg 2: 1 Mile SUP - Fogland Beach, Tiverton
- Leg 3: 12.3 Mile Run - Sandy Point, Portsmouth to Fort Adams, Newport
- Leg 4: 5.6 Mile Kayak - Fort Adams to Narragansett with a portage in Jamestown
- Leg 5: 28.5 Mile Bike - Narragansett to Westerly
Divisions for Race the State include individual, 2,3,4 and new for 2016 is a 5-person relay.
Also new for 2016 is a new stand up paddle course, which is 1 mile across the Sakonnet River from Fogland Beach in Tiverton to Sandy Point in Portsmouth. This change in course makes leg 3 of the race a challenging 12.3 miles from Portsmouth to Fort Adams in Newport.
All entrants will receive a t-shirt, an entry to win a 9'6" Peter Pan designed Ace Tec Big Sport Stand Up Paddleboard, a commemorative Race the State sticker, and a subscription to Canoeroots, Rapid or Adventure Kayek magazine.
There will also be a finish part for all entrants.
2015 Race
The 2015 Race The State, the first edition, was held on August 9, 2015 and spanned 10 communities and two bodies of water.
The race was won by Middletown resident, David FitzGerald for the men's individual division in 2015 setting the course time at 5 hours 2 minutes and 22 seconds.
