Welcome to The Scoop, the 4 p.m. report on everything politics in Rhode Island – the inside daily report exclusively on GoLocalProv.com.
GOP Mayoral Candidate Donated to Taveras
Republican Daniel Harrop, who is running for mayor of Providence for the third time, has donated money to current Providence Mayor and former opponent Angel Taveras, according to Rhode Island Board of Elections records.
Harrop donated $250 to Taveras on September 23, 2010, which is less than three months after the Republican exited the Providence mayoral race. At the time of his exit, Harrop was the only Republican candidate.

Independent Jonathan Scott was Taveras' opponent in the 2010 general election.
Interestingly, GoLocal first reported last week that Republican gubernatorial candidate and current mayor of Cranston Allan Fung donated $1,000 to Taveras in 2010. In the article, Fung's campaign spokesman Patrick Sweeney told GoLocal that the donation was inconsequential because Fung made it while Taveras had no Republican opponent. In fact, Fung made the donation on June 21, 2010 while Harrop was still in the race.
2014 Providence Mayoral Race
The current field of Providence mayoral candidates includes City Council President Michael Solomon, former Water Supply Board Chairman Brett Smiley, former Housing Court Judge Jorge Elorza, and managing director at Ballentine Partners Lorne Adrain.
GoLocal first reported on Wednesday that State Representative and former Acting Mayor of Providence John Lombardi is also seriously considering running for mayor of Providence. Lombardi, who represents District 8 in Providence, told GoLocal that he is “absolutely” thinking about entering the race and that he possesses "the necessary experience to lead Providence."
The winner of the Democratic Primary will face Harrop, who is the lone Republican candidate.
