NEW: David Caprio Resigns as Democratic State Party Chairman
Tuesday, July 29, 2014
David Caprio has resigned his position as Democratic State Party Chairman.
Jonathan Boucher, Executive Director of the state Democratic Party, issued the following statement today on behalf of Caprio.
"The position of Democratic Party Chair is demanding and time consuming, especially in an election year. There are numerous, talented Democrats seeking office. I can not, at this time, dedicate the necessary time and energy to assist them in their respective campaigns. Accordingly, I no longer will serve as party chair. I am immeasurably appreciative to the Democratic Party for the opportunity to serve, their encouragement, and support."

GoLocalProv reported Tuesday that Republican gubernatorial candidate Ken Block chastised Caprio and Democratic State Representative Peter Palumbo for "rigging the game" and "serving their own financial interests", citing an NBC 10 I-Team investigative report that revealed Palumbo was the high bidder on a contract to operate concession stands at state beaches but then backed out, and the contract was awarded to the second highest bidder, Caprio, who then hired Palumbo to manage the operation.
