Providence’s West Elmwood Intruders Involved in Fatal Accident Returning from Florida

West Elmwood Intruders Pee-Wee football players and family members were involved in a fatal car accident coming back from the national tournament in Florida on Friday. 

"I woke up to [the news]..right now we're just doing what we've got to do," said Coach Andre Isom, who said he could only confirm the fatality was a mother, who had been driving when the accident occurred in South Carolina. 

"The kid doesn't even know," said Isom. "There's another kid in surgery.  That's all we know right now."

The team posted to their Facebook page on Friday regarding the incident.

The accident was reported in South Carolina press "1 dead, 6 injured in wreck on I-95" in Clarendon County on WCBD News 2:

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating following a deadly wreck, Friday morning.

Troopers say the incident happened near the 113 mile-marker on I-95 northbound at around 3:10 a.m. on December 8.

The driver of a 2017 Honda SUV, while headed north, left the left side of the road, struck a tree, and overturned.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Six other passengers were in the vehicle at the time of the crash, according to S.C. Highway Patrol spokesman Lance Cpl. Judd Jones.

One person reportedly had “serious, non-life threatening injuries,” Jones added. Medics transported all to McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.

We are working to learn the identity of the victim from the Clarendon County Coroner’s Office.
