Jamestown Police Officer Age 24 Killed by Wrong Way Driver Over Night

Jamestown Police Officer Ryan Bourque, 24, was killed in a wrong way accident on Rt. 95 on Sunday night. Bourque was on his way home from completing his 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. shift when the accident occurred. 

The Jamestown Police Department released the following statement on their Facebook page. 

"It is with deep sadness the the Jamestown Police Department announces the death of Officer Ryan Bourque. Early this morning, Officer Bourque was traveling home after completing his patrol shift and was struck head on by a wrong way driver on RT 95 South. Officer Bourque, 24, was a 2015 graduate of the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy and completed his one year of service with our department on the date of the accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and brother and sister officers."

State Police Investigate 

A Rhode Island State Police investigation that a black Toyota Camry, operated by Dejae Pizarro, 23, of Bedford, Massachusetts, was traveling north, in the high speed lane of Route 95 South. 

At a point approximately 500 feet north of exit 7, Pizarro's vehicle struck a white Dodge Charger head on. The operator of the Dodge was identified as Bourque of Coventry. Both drivers passed away as a rest of injuries. 

The State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit as well as the Forensic Services Unit are assisting. 

The investigation is ongoing.
