BREAKING NEWS: Central Falls Teachers Say It’s a Deal
Monday, May 17, 2010
Teachers at Central Falls High School have approved an agreement between the union and the school district that would allow them to return to their jobs next year, 630 WPRO, a GoLocalProv media partner, is reporting.
The teachers voted today after Education Commissioner Deborah Gist announced yesterday first to GoLocalProv that a tentative deal had been reached. As part of the arrangement, the school day will be extended and teachers will offer more after-school tutoring.
Central Falls High has been named one of the lowest performing schools in Rhode Island by Gist. In addition to persistently low test scores, half of all students fail their classes and slightly less than half graduation.
