EXCLUSIVE: New Providence Police Officer Named as Suspect in Larceny

Just one day after graduating in the new Providence police class, David Sanchez has been named as a suspect in a report of a stolen cell phone stemming from an incident on Saturday, October 11 at the Providence Marriott.
David Sanchez and Delilah Rivera, who share the same address, were named as suspects in a Providence Incident Report by Chelsea Moreira, who provided a witness statement to police following reporting a missing cell phone.
According to the Police report obtained by GoLocalProv, after the phone was found, Sanchez told investigating officers he "did not know how the phone got into his pants pocket."

"I went to the ladies room after the Gloria Gemma torch walk, and I left my phone on the counter," wrote Moreira in a sworn statement. "When I returned I saw two females who told me, "Was it purple? Delilah has it...she's wearing the black and white skirt."
"I proceeded inside and approached Delilah and asked if she had my phone. She got very defensive and exclaimed, "Frisk me!" I was then approached by a dark skinned male [w/] grey suit, red shirt who told me to "calm down," then handed me the top part of my cell phone case & told me verbatim, "I just had your phone."
"Hotel security intervened, and the Sergeant...obtained my phone -- all pieces except the battery, retrieved from the dark skinned boy with the grey suit and red shirt," wrote Moreira, of Sanchez.
According to the case narrative recorded by the police, Rivera said, "sir I didn't take no cell phone from no one."
Moreira, when contacted by GoLocal Monday afternoon, said she couldn't speak at the moment. "I've got two Sergeants here," said Moreira. "I'll have to call you back."
