Shawn Nassaney was a natural athlete, a leader, and was poised to take his young adulthood by storm, when his life was ended abruptly on September 11, 2001.
Born and raised in Pawtucket, the Bryant University alum was traveling with his girlfriend Lynn Catherine Goodchild on a spontaneous four-day trip to Maui, Hawaii, before the pair settled in to the MBA program at Providence College. Nassaney and Goodchild were passengers on United Airlines Flight 175, which was hijacked by five al-Qaeda terrorists and crashed into the South Tower of New York's World Trade Center.
His father Patrick took the time to talk about Shawn and the life he might have led if events had been different on that day.
Note: The piece originally was published in 2011 on the tenth anniversary.
The Shawn M. Nassaney Walk/Race took place Saturday, which Nassaney describes, was held Saturday, September 9, at Bryant University. Funds raised support the Shawn M. Nassaney Memorial Foundation, which has fully endowed a scholarship at Bryant University and actively seeks further projects for funding.
