LIVE: Effort to Bury Power Lines at India Point Park in Providence Heats Up
Wednesday, March 21, 2018
David Riley with the "Friends of India Point Park" advocacy group appeared on GoLocal LIVE where he spoke to the upcoming Siting Board hearing at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27 at 89 Jefferson Boulevard in Warwick, which marks the latest in the now decades-long battle between residents and advocates who want to see the power lines in Providence's India Point buried underground for both aesthetic and economic reasons.
On Tuesday, the Board will consider a request for a delay on its decision to leave the India Point waterfront power lines overhead, until the Rhode Island Supreme Court rules on a pending appeal.
Riley spoke to the appeal which has been filed jointly by Providence, Friends of India Point Park (FIPP), and two waterfront businesses. Former state Attorneys General are arguing the appeal: Jeff Pine representing Providence, and Patrick Lynch representing FIPP, the Hilton Garden Inn, and the RI Seafood Festival.
