Spring is here and not a moment too soon!  Its arrival brings lots of new titles to put on your ever-growing list of books. It’s impossible to keep up with so many fabulous new reads. To make it easier, I’ll highlight a few of my favorites and share what the authors had to say about their latest work. These books are all out in April and May.  (It’s not your imagination; “Sarah” is very popular name in the world of authors.)

Sarah Pekkanen

My new novel THINGS YOU WON'T SAY is very timely and I hope it will encourage continued discussion on one of the most important topics our country is currently facing. It's told from the point of view of the wife of a police officer who shoots a teenager.

Currently I'm reading THE WEDDING GIFT by Marlen Suyapa Bodden, which is fantastic! My agent highly recommended it, and she's right, it's a riveting read.  Lesson –always listen to your agent.

I am particularly excited about THE HOUSE OF HAWTHORNE because it is my first novel without a fictional narrator. All of the 'true characters' from history tell the story, and include a fascinating, well-known, and talented cast.

I have Kristina McMorris to blame for the dark circles under my eyes. I just finished an early reader copy of her incredible new novel THE EDGE OF LOST (Nov. 2015), and I could not put it down

I’m excited to share The Mapmaker’s Children  because it’s more than a historical account, more than an interesting mystery, more than a whimsical visit to small-town America. It’s all those things, yes, but moreover, my aim in writing this novel was to honor the legacy of Sarah Brown and her impact on all of us— the Eden and Jacks of today.

I read the first chapter of Sara Gruen’s At the Water’s Edge  and was bereft at having to put it aside for writing deadlines and book tour travels. I can’t wait to pick it back up!

(Sarah McCoy will be in RI May 5th and 6th to launch The Mapmaker’s Children! For ticket info please visit Reading With Robin

The setting for The Sound Of Glass in the exquisite South Carolina Lowcountry town of Beaufort is a character itself, immersing the reader in the rich and sultry atmosphere of the story.

Sea glass, the inspiration for the book, symbolizes the three strong women of the story. Like sea glass, which spends many years tumbled about by the ocean's waves but manage to remain intact, these women also emerge from life's struggles.  They are scarred but learn to wear their scars proudly because they show where they've been.

Book I'm reading now: ALL THE LIGHT WE CANNOT SEE by Anthony Doerr. It’s my favorite time period (WWII), a terrific story, and beautiful writing.  It's a win-win-win!

When I told my lawyer the story of my difficult relationship with my acid-head-turned-wannabe-mystic-dad, as I planned to recount it in my memoir, Good Girl, he said, "I keep waiting for the part where he burns you with cigarettes." Luckily for me, I never experienced anything that traumatic.

My book is also much more than just a dad-daughter memoir. When I sat down to write it, I realized I'd only seen my dad about eight times in my childhood, and so the tale of our relationship was also about what was happening when he wasn't around.

Katherine Heiny's wonderful new collection, Single, Carefree, Mellow, made me realize how rare it is to read a book that is laugh out loud funny. She has a great, observant wit. I can't wait to read my writing partner Amelia Gray's new collection Gutshot. She just had a short story from it in The New Yorker, which is like the holy grail of short fiction. And my friend Jillian Lauren wrote a new memoir that promises to be beautiful and real, just like her. It's called Everything You Ever Wanted, and it's about adopting her son from Africa. Her memoir Some Girls inspired me greatly while I was writing Good Girl.

I love hearing from the authors and the books they’re excited about At Reading With Robin author events this topic always comes up and I love watching as audience members take out pen and paper or smart phones and jot down titles. Even if we don’t get to it, we like to think we might.

To win an advance reader’s copy of Dear Carolina by Kristy Wooodson Harvey please leave a comment about what’s next on your reading list. Good luck!
