Joe Jackson at The Strand
Thursday, July 12, 2018
Grammy Award winner Joe Jackson displayed his eclectic sound of punk, new wave, pop, and jazz at The Strand on Monday. The once angry young Brit has somewhat mellowed with age, but still delivered a strong performance before a large crowd.
Jackson broke onto the charts in 1979 with his album Look Sharp!, an album which Rolling Stone named as one of the top 100 debut albums of all time. Jackson hit the scene at the same time as fellow English contemporaries Elvis Costello and Graham Parker, all having a similar sound and vibe.
Jackson, with a solid band supporting him, played his classics “Sunday Papers,” “Steppin’ Out,” “One More Time,” “You Can’t Get What You Want (Till You Know What You Want),” and his breakout tune “Is She Really Going Out With Him?”
