A very busy weekend in music arives, headlined by a pair of leading ladies of Rock and Soul. We’re bringing a full serving of roots this week on “5 Live Music Musts.”
Solid Soul at The Vets Sunday
GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLASTTwo leading ladies of rock and soul will be at The Vets in Providence Sunday for the “Solid Soul” tour. Joan Osborne, best known for her 90’s hit “One Of Us” and Mavis Staples, of the legendary Staples Singers (“Respect Yourself,” ”I’ll Take You There”) will most certainly rock the house. According to tour reports, you can expect a complete set from each artist, before they come together for a few tunes. Good seats are still available – click here for more information. Revival at Columbus Theatre Friday and Saturday
It’s time for the annual Revival Festival celebrating Providence’s Columbus Theatre's 3rd anniversary. That means two nights of the best local and national indie acts on both stages, the lobby, and wherever else the show takes you. First, its “Previval” tonight with Cannibal Ramblers, Roz and the Rice Cakes, and Tall Tall Trees. Tomorrow, Revival! welcomes Kishi Bashi, The Low Anthem, The Huntress, Screaming Females, Mitski, She Keeps Bees, Last Good Tooth, Vudu Sister, and more. Lot’s to look forward to, especially the debut of The Huntress and Holder of Hands, a new band from Brown Bird’s MorganEve Swain. Tickets are $20 - More information here.
Chris Monti at the Parlour Saturday
The old Penalty Box on North Main has morphed into a busy dive bar and top music venue serving a variety of area artists and their fans. Tomorrow night, The Parlour hosts a record release party for Chris Monti, who is releasing a solo acoustic album, Box Guitar. The album, available for download on Bandcamp, is a nice mix of world music, rock and roll and country blues. He’ll be joined by local favorites Shamantic and Big Biscuit. Music begins around 8PM, $5 cover at the door.
Anniversary Weekend at Narrows Center
A couple of big shows come to the Narrows Center this weekend as the venue celebrates its 14th anniversary. Tonight, its jazz guitar great Charlie Hunter and his Trio, and tomorrow night, check out legendary singer-songwriter Tom Rush. The positive vibes continue into next week at the Narrows when Reggae greats The Skatalites return to the Narrows on Tuesday. More information on these shows here.
Blood and Trash Tour at The Met Wednesday
Veteran’s Day brings some down and dirty rock and roll to The Met as Johnny Two Bags makes a stop in Pawtucket. Two Bags, a.k.a. John Wickersham, is the well known lead guitarist of the iconic California band Social Distortion. His new acoustic album Salvation Town, comes from that beautiful place where rock and country meet. He’s joined by fellow travelers Scott H. Biram and Jesse Dayton. The all ages show begins at 9AM, tickets are $16 in advance, $20 at the door.

The reigning champion of Chicago Blues was at Indian Ranch in Webster, MA Sunday for an inspired show before an enthusiastic crowd. Behind a tight band, Buddy Guy turned up the heat, and looked great doing it! GoLocalWorcester Music Critic Ken Abrams and Photographer Rick Farrell of Mojo Photography were there.
