RIMHOF - Throwing Muses

Newport’s Throwing Muses are undoubtedly the most famous alternative rock band to come out of Rhode Island. In fact, they may be the most famous Rhode Island band, period. (Co-founder Tonya Donnelly later formed Belly, the only RI act to ever be featured on the cover of Rolling Stone.) Stepsisters Kristin Hersh and Tonya Donelly formed the band as teenagers in 1981, and their alternative pop style was influential in the development of numerious bands in the U.S. and U.K. They play Saturday night at the RIMHOF Induction Concert at The Met. RIMHOF - Neutral Nation

A couple of other alternative bands will be playing at The Met Saturday night, ahead of their induction on Sunday. Neutral Nation is the arguably the first authentic punk band to be inducted into the Hall. The band saw its heyday in the 1980’s and 90’s but still plays reunion shows frequently around the area. Also being inducted, psychedelic garage rockers Plan 9, a Wakefield band that pioneered the Neo-Psychedelic sound in the 1980s. More information and tickets here.

Rizzz and Wild Turkey

Sunday’s post-induction show includes a couple of popular classic rock bands, who between them have probably played every dive bar and club in the state. Originally formed in 1973, Rizzz combined a roots approach with jam band vibes to create a sound that closed many a local night club. The Wild Turkey Band (later Hometown Rockers) developed a similar, roots based sound, with covers and originals in the style of Van Morrison, The Grateful Dead and The Band. Both acts will be showcased at the RIMHOF Induction event Sunday starting around 4PM. Late word is that the show is sold out.
