Lacrosse State Championships: La Salle Aims for 3 in a Row

The Rhode Island Interscholastic League is set to crown 3 new state champions in boys’ lacrosse Sunday, with Division 1 La Salle aiming for a 3rd consecutive state championship victory in 2014.
The Rams finished 10-0 in league play this season and cruised to a 16-9 semifinal victory over Moses Brown.
Their opponent, #2 seed Barrington, knocked off Hendricken 12-6 in the semifinals to earn a berth in the state title game. The Eagles posted a 7-3 league record in 2014, and a win over La Salle would mark the first lacrosse championship in program history.

In Division 3, Smithfield will not win a 4th championship in a row. The Sentinels were knocked out in the quarterfinals by Coventry, and the Oakers then defeated Cranston West in the semifinals to advance to the championship game.
Coventry’s opponent is Tiverton/Rogers Co-op, who knocked over Burrillville/North Smithfield Co-op in the semifinals.
The triple-header begins at 1:00p.m. with East Greenwich and South Kingstown, followed by Tiverton/Rogers vs. Burrillville/North Smithfield at 3:00 p.m., and concluded with La Salle and Barrington at 5 p.m. All games are at Brown University.
