The Lupus Foundation of New England and a group of Rhode Island volunteers will host the sixth annual Runway for a Cure event on Tuesday, October 21 at the Providence Biltmore Hotel from 6:30 to 10:00 p.m.

Runway for a Cure

The Runway for a Cure cocktail reception, silent auction and fashion show is an evening dedicated to increasing Lupus awareness in Rhode Island and raising funds for continued research efforts.  Some of the silent auction items include: Boston Celtics tickets, golf outings at Metacomet Country Club and Kirkbrae, Newport helicopter ride, hotel stays in Providence, Boston and Newport area, gift certificates to Rhode Island’s finest restaurants, spa packages, and designer jewelry.

Dr. Bonnie Bermas, Director, Center for Lupus and Antiphospholipid Antibody, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Assistant Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, said, “Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (Lupus) is a systemic disorder that disproportionally impacts young Black, Latino and Asian women.  These underserved populations, as well as all persons with Lupus need our help in developing better treatments for this disease, a better understanding of the causes and prevention of Lupus, and better resources for the support and education of those who suffer from this condition. ‘Runway for a Cure’ is an exciting and innovative event whose proceeds directly support the Lupus Foundation of New England, an organization that addresses these issues.”
