Can Locally Grown Foods be Dangerous?

ecoRI News, the online environmental site, is launching its inaugural happy-hour speaker series starting on May 18, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. at AS220 in Providence.

The panel discussion will focus on the dark side of local food: How can consumers know that what they're buying is truly local? Are there those who misuse the “local” label? How do we define local food? Is local food better for the environment? How can we make local food more affordable?

“This event celebrates a hot topic — local food,” said Joanna Detz, ecoRI News Executive Director and co-founder. “At the same time, there are unsavory truths about local food that need to be exposed. As a news organization that reports on issues around food and farming, and the local food economy, it’s our job to convene people to answer these questions.”
